Abstract

The early instar larvae of D. punctiferalis feeding on Jyoti, Western-6 and W-98 cultivars of castor were killed to the tune of 4.34, 3.52 and 13.8 per cent in first generation, 16.60, 19.5 and 18.5 per cent in second generation and 28.1, 27.2 and 21.7 per cent in third generation, respectively due to unknown reasons. The corresponding values in respect of its late instar larvae were 1.10, zero and 6.16 in first generation, 9.80, 1.05 and 6.57 per cent in second generation and 9.46, 9.41 and 5.0 per cent in third generation, respectively on Jyoti, Western-6 and W-98. The indices of A. janata infesting castor cultivars viz., Jyoti, Western-6 and W-98 were 0.76, 0.37 and 0.40 respectively in first generation. While corresponding values in second generation were zero, zero and zero. However, the trend for indices of D. punctiferalis infesting Jyoti, Western-6 and W-98 cultivars of castor in three generations were 1.43, 0.73 and zero, 1.51, 0.89 and zero and 1.08, 0.83 and zero, respectively.
