Abstract

total of 16 maize hybrids were screened for their resistance to S. cerealella, three viz. cMH08–381, cMH08287, c06 were found resistant as they showed less insect emergence, low adult weight, prolonged mean development period, lower weight loss and lower susceptibility index. Qualitative analysis was done for three maize hybrids each from resistant and susceptible category to estimate total phenol, amylose content and amylase activity. Resistance hybrids possessed higher amount of phenol (0.497–0.641 μg/g), amylose (24.90–28.53%) and amylase activity (798–843 μg/min) compared to susceptible ones.
