Monitoring of insect-pest complex on black gram, Vigna mungo (Linn.) at Pantnagar

Abstract

Insect pests belonging to four orders and 11 families were recorded at Pantnagar infesting black gram var. pant u-31 at different stages of crop growth in an overlapping manner. All the major parts of this legume plant viz., pod/seed, flower, leaf and stem were found to be infested. Out of thirteen insect species, four recorded as foliage feeders, five as sap suckers, three as flower/pod feeders and one as stem feeder. Three species viz., Bemisia tabaci, Trichoplusia ni and Spilosoma obliqua were observed as the major pests of black gram.
