Abstract

Studies on the efficacy of pheromones against two major lepidopteran pests in rice viz. rice yellow stem borer (Scirpophaga excerptalis Walker) and rice caseworm (Paraponyx stagnalis Zeller) revealed the presence of a common pheromone chemical, Z-11-hexadecenal as major compound for the management of both the pests. Z-11-hexadecenal in combination of Z-13-Octadecenyl acetate in the ratio of 1: 1 attracted more male moths of caseworm while Z-11-hexadecenal in combination with Z-9-hexadecenal in the ratio of 3: 1 attracted male moths of yellow stem borer in the field.
