Abstract

Nanotechnology, a promising field of interdisciplinary research opens up a wide array of opportunities. Large surface areas of the nanoparticles are responsible for their different chemical, optical, mechanical, magnetic properties as compared to large sized bulk materials. It gives major impulses to technical innovations in a variety of industrial sectors in the future which include enhancement in agricultural productivity involving efficient dosage of water and fertilizer, nanocapsules for biocides delivery, vector and pest management and nanosensors for pest detection. Traditional approaches like integrated pest management used in agriculture are insufficient and indiscriminate application of chemical pesticides have adverse effects on environment, animals and human beings. Therefore, nanotechnology provides proficient alternatives for the management of insect pests in agriculture without harming the nature and would offer green.
