An investigation on the life history and ovipositional preference of C. chinensis reared on five different pulses revealed not much variation between the pulses. The adults exhibited a marked preference for smooth, well-filled seeds for oviposition. The order of preference for oviposition on different pulses for C. chinensis was Cajanus cajan (red gram) > Vigna radiate (green gram) > Vigna unguiculata (cowpea) > Cicer arietinum (chickpea) > Vigna mungo (black gram).
