A glimpse of predatory mites in tea plantations of India: biodiversity, predatory potential and taxonomic key

Abstract

Species diversity of predatory mites in the tea ecosystem of India comprised of 51 species belonging to 4 orders and 14 families. Out of which 26 belong to Phytoseiidae, 1 Ascidae, 1 Anystidae, 1 Tydeidae, 3 Bdellidae, 4 Cunaxidae, 4 Raphignathidae, 2 Iolinidae, 5 Stigmaeidae, 3 Erythraeidae, 1 Cheyletidae, 1 Glycyphagidae, 1 Acaridae and 1 Oppiidae. The present communication also provides a taxonomic key of different taxa, information pertaining to their prey and also highlights the scope for future studies for their profitable and judicious utilization.
