Abstract

The incidence of top shoot borer, scirpophaga nivella (Fabricius) starts around three month old crop and lasts till harvest. Five IPM modules were tested against top shoot borer. The percentage of incidence of S. nivella in module-5 (T. chilonis + T. howardi + carbofuran) was 4.3, 2.8, 2.2, 1.1, 0.6 at 30, 45, 60, 75 and 90 days after planting (DAP), respectively, and it also gave highest cane yield of 89.43 t/ha as compared all other modules tested. Module-5 constitutes application of carbofuran four times @ 25 kg/ha i.e. at the time of planting and further at 30, 60 and 90 DAP; tagging of trichocards five times @ 50,000 eggs/ha at an interval of 15 days starting from 30 DAP and release of adults T. howardi three times @ 1200-1500 adults/ ha at an interval of 30 days starting from 30 DAP in the field of sugarcane.
