Range extension of rare butterfly, the red imperial, Suasa lisides (hewitson) (insecta: Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae) to western Arunachal Pradesh

Abstract

Recently, while conducting surveys in the Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary under the mandates of the Zoological survey of India, only one male individual of the rare species, Suasa lisides (Hewitson) was sighted at Ganga Lake, Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary on 2nd January, 2020. The species is included in the Schedule II, Part II of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. This is the second sighting of this species in Arunachal Pradesh and presence of the species at Ganga lake, Itanagar appears to be westward extension of the species in Arunachal Pradesh.
