Abstract

This study investigated the insecticidal activity of plant lignan sesamin against workers of subterranean termite, Odontotermes obesus (Rambur), an important agricultural pest. Insecticidal property of sesamin was evaluated through oral (Cardboard sheets) administration. Sesamin 1000 ppm recorded highest per cent mortality (97.59%) in workers of O. obesus. Sesamin @ 250 ppm exhibited the antifeedant activity against O. obesus. Results showed that sesamin had excellent toxic and antifeedant activity on termites which may lead to future development of sesamin as botanical insecticide against various insect pests.
