Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore the species of thrips on chili plants in Nagari Batu Palano, Agam Regency, West Sumatra. Surveys were conducted in 13 areas of chili plantation-locations in Nagari Batu Palano by taking samples of 100 chili plants attacked by thrips in each chili plantation-location found. Thrips obtained were collected in 70% alcohol and microscopic slides were made for identification. The results showed that 4 (four) species of thrips were found on chili plants in Nagari Batu Palano. The thrips species are Thrips parvispinus, Thrips palmi, Thrips hawaiiensis and Haplothrips sp. from the Suborder Tubulifera. Thrips parvispinus was found at each survey location with its dominating number. Recognizing the species of thrips will provide very useful information in the development of science and provide basic knowledge for a proper biological control.
