Apis mellifera (European honey bee) construct multiple parallel combs with specific bee space. Under both natural and artificial conditions honey bees construct hexagonal raised cells on either side of wax sheet/base. Hexagonal cells are used by colony for storage of brood including eggs, larvae, pupae, pollen grain and honey. In artificial method of rearing wooden frames with attached wax sheets are provided to colony, where honey bees raised symmetrical hexagonal cells on both side of sheet. The fundamental distinction among natural and artificial hives is that natural hives address the demands of honey bees, while artificial hives meet the prerequisites of both honey bees and the bee-keepers.
