Taxonomic study of stem borers (Crambinae: Crambidae: Lepidoptera) from Tamil Nadu

Abstract

Two economically important stem borers under the genus Chilo viz., Chilo partellus and Chilo sacchariphagus indicus were studied with wing venation, antenna, legs, tympanal characters, male and female genitalia. The study revealed that the Φ genitalia of C. partellus with well demarcated round ostial pouch and aedeagus with bulbose basal projection with sclerotized ventral arm. C. sacchariphagus indicus aedeagus broader and elongate, heavily sclerotized projection.
