Abstract

This study was to reveal the preference and abundance of thrips on roses in Jambi. This exploratory descriptive study was conducted in four locations in Jambi. The results showed that there were four species of thrips found on roses in Jambi, namely Scirtothrips dorsalis Hood, Thrips parvispinus Karny, Thrips hawaiiensis Morgan and Haplothrips sp. The highest abundance of thrips species was Scirtothrips dorsalis (0.417), and the lowest was Haplothrips sp. (0.104). The highest preference for thrips for the color of roses is the pink color found at stations I and III, while the preference for thrips at stations II and IV is for magenta and maroon flowers, respectively. The highest abundance of thrips species at each station was Scirtothrips dorsalis. The study of the preference and abundance of thrips on roses can be used as important information in controlling ornamental plant pests.
