Abstract

Present investigation registered Atherigona approximata Malloch as major shoot fly species exist under wheat ecosystem. Among the different dates of sowing, late sown wheat crop at second fortnight of December suffered maximum (26.06% dead heart) compared to other three early sowing dates due to A. approximata. Shoot fly oviposition showed significant positive correlation with maximum temperature (r = 0.998) whereas, significant negative association noticed between dead heart damage and minimum temperature (r = -0.999). As part of the cultural practice, we suggest to follow early sowing of bread wheat, wherever shoot fly menace noticed to cause over the limit of 10% Economic Threshold Level (ETL).
