Abstract

Significant variations were observed on silk fibre parameters such as fibre length, weight and size of silk filament except for non-breakable filament length which was found to be non-significant. Fibre length (325.33 m), non-breakable filament length (231.34 m), weight (0.21 g) and size of silk filament (5.59d) were recorded maximum in Kamrup and minimum in Jorhat district (257.19 m, 185.95 m, 0.15 g and 5.22d, respectively) without considering the season. However, finer denier silk was obtained in Jorhat (5.2d) in spring season. It was observed that autumn is better than spring season in respect to economic parameters.
