Morphometry and description of various stages of sorghum shoot bug, Peregrinus maidis (Ashmead) (Delphacidae: Hemiptera)

Abstract

The present findings pertaining to the morphometry and description of sorghum shoot bug, Peregrinus maidis had shown that, among the various stages studied, egg stage is very smaller which cannot be seen with naked eyes with 1.06 ± 0.02 mm length and 0.27 ± 0.02 mm width. Among five nymphal stages reported the length ranged from 1.35 to 3.97 mm whereas width ranged from 0.38 to 1.14 mm, respectively. The highest length (3.97 ± 0.12 mm) and width (1.14 ± 0.01 mm) was reported from fifth instar. Among adult's female was longer and broader in comparison with male with 4.73 ± 0.23 mm length and 1.57 ± 0.06 mm width. Eggs are curved inserted in midribs of sorghum with semi-transparent in nature with white color whereas all other stages ranged their appearance from light creamish to dark brown in color.
