Abstract

This study aims to determine the abundance of thrips (Thysanoptera) in chrysanthemum in several areas of Jambi, Indonesia. Sampling was carried out by purposive sampling technique by direct observation. Sampling was conducted at 4 different stations, with 4 observations for each station. The collected thrips were put in a specimen bottle filled with 70% alcohol. Microscopic slides were made for identification. Preferences were observed for 5 colors of chrysanthemum, namely white, purple, yellow, red, and purplish white. Four species of thrips were found: members of Terebrantia and Tubulifera at each station, namely Thrips hawaiiensis, Thrips palmi, Thrips tabaci, and Haplothrips sp. The highest abundance of species of thrips is Thrips hawaiiensis, with a value of 0.411. Meanwhile, the lowest species abundance was Haplothrips sp., with a value of 0.074. The thrips preference for flower color showed that at stations I, II, and IV, the highest abundance of thrips was found in white chrysanthemums.
