Abstract

A field trial was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of different chemical insecticides against fall armyworm in sorghum (Sorghum bicolor). The crop was sown in a plot size of 3 × 5 m2 with a spacing of 45 × 15 cm following the recommended package and practices. The plots were treated with different insecticides viz., Flubendiamide 20 WG @ 70 a.i. g/ha, Chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC @ 30 a.i. g/ha, Emamectin benzoate 5 SG @ 10 a.i. g/ha, Profenophos 50 EC @ 500 a.i. g/ha, Spinetoram 11.7 SC @ 60 a.i. g/ha, Indoxacarb 15.5 SC @ 75 a.i. g/ha and untreated control in three replications. All the insecticides showed a significant result in reducing the population of fall armyworm. The maximum mean reduction in armyworm population was observed with Emamectin benzoate 5 SG and Chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC being 57.72 and 56.67% respectively after first spray and 60.49 and 56.26% respectively after second spray. The incremental benefit cost ratio (IBCR) was recorded maximum in Emamectin benzoate 5 SG and Chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC with a value of 7.71 and 3.04, respectively.
