Spun silk is one of the top grade textile materials, and its textile products have high added value which satisfy the need of the market. Mulberry and non-mulberry silk waste and eri silkworm cocoons are the main raw material for spun silk industry. Because of diversification of market, yarn producers are forced to produce quality yarn. Due to this modern spinning techniques have replaced conventional hand spinning methods. For the fine count silk yarn production mill spinning is performed which involves more sophisticated methods and machineries. Very few specific commercial machines are being marketed for exclusive silk spinning units. Hence there is huge scope for research in this field. This method of silk production does not involve killing of living pupa inside the cocoon, hence it is considered as eco-friendly method and is popular among the ethical consumers. The present review emphasizes on the research trends in silk spinning process.
