Abstract

In the present study, algal extract and algal mat were used against Anopheles sp. larvae. Results showed that for the test with algal extract, the highest larvicidal activity was present in ethanol extract of Scenedesmus sp. with an LC50 and LC90 of 749.298 and 1429.548, respectively after 24 h while the LC50 and LC90 after 48 h were 600.524 and 1475.895, respectively. For the test with algal mat immobilized on luffa sponge, the highest larval mortality of 60% (within 48 h) was present for Chlorococcum sp. It can be concluded that, both the methods have proved to be highly efficient in targeting the Anopheles sp.
