Response of different mung bean varieties against pulse beetle (Callosobruchus chinensis L.)

Abstract

Seven promising varieties of mung bean were screened under force and free choice condition. Under both the situation none of the screened variety was found resistant or moderately resistant category. In force choice condition the variety viz., TJM 140 and PDM 139 were the least preferred varieties and categorized as moderately susceptible with growth index 0.062 and 0.066 respectively while TJM 137, TJM 141 and TJM 111 were highly preferred and categorized as susceptible, susceptible and highly susceptible with growth index 0.072, 0.077 and 0.084 respectively. Similarly under free choice condition the varieties viz., TJM 137, TJM 160 and TJM 141 were the least preferred and categorized as moderately susceptible with the growth index 0.063, 0.063 and 0.069 respectively while variety Virat was categorized as highly susceptible with the growth index of 0.084.
