Comprehensive screening and categorization of selected okra germplatm lines against shoot and fruit borer (Earias vittella) tolerance during plant ontogeny
Abstract
In this study, a total of twenty-four okra genotypes were screened against E. vittella for shoot and fruit borer resistance. In the case of shoot infestation, fifteen genotypes were found to be moderately resistant, nine genotypes were found to be moderately susceptible, and no genotypes showed resistance. The percentage of shoot infestation ranged from 5.65% (Abelmoschus tetraphyllus var. tetraphyllus) to 18.96% (IC-0601182) among moderately resistant genotypes and 15.31% (IC-0042491) to 18.96% (A. Abhay) among moderately susceptible genotypes. In the case of fruit infestation, three genotypes were found to be moderately resistant, twelve genotypes were moderately susceptible, nine genotypes were susceptible, and no genotypes showed resistance. Fruit infestation percentages ranged from 9.04% (Abelmoschus tetraphyllus var. tetraphyllus) to 14.74% (1685) for moderately resistant genotypes and 15.46 (IC-0117024) to 29.56 (IC-0117319) for highly resistant genotypes. In the case of susceptible genotypes, the fruit infestation ranged from 31.34% (IC0022283) to 30.63% (IC-0039140).
