In this study, we document the first record of invasive species Zaprionus indianus (Gupta) (Diptera: Drosophilidae), also known as African fig fly, from Nawada region of Bihar. In June 2023, Zaprionus indianus specimens were first identified, photographed, and later five specimens were collected from man-made mango orchard in Narhat village, situated in Nawada district from Bihar. This report highlights the first ever occurrence of such invasion by African fig fly in Bihar region and will further pave the way for the recognition of scale of such biological invasions by non-native insect species in Bihar. In addition, this work will aid in the future assessment of damages caused by invasive insect species on the native biotic communities of Bihar.
