Validation of insecticide resistance management based integrated pest management strategies of pink bollworm (Pectinophora gossypiella) in cotton in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, India

Abstract

The results showed that the mean green boll damage due to pink bollworm was 27.66 in IRM fields and 35.94% in farmers practice with a per cent reduction of 23.03 in IRM over farmers practice/ non-IRM. The seed cotton yields in IRM fields was 26.42 and 24.01 q/ha in FP with a 10% increase in yields in IRM over FP. The cost of cultivation in IRM was Rs. 73,640/ha and Rs. 83,802/ha in FP, gross returns and net profit was Rs. 1,27,863/- and 54,222/- in IRM and Rs. 11,507/- and 32,104/- in FP respectively. The additional profit due to adoption of IRM based IPM strategies was Rs. 22,118/-. An average of eight sprays were taken up in IRM fields and 12.75 sprays in FP. The per cent reduction in pesticide usage was upto 45.57 in IRM fields.
