The study found that Callosobruchus chinensis (pulse beetle) undergoes five stages in its life i.e., egg, grub (from 1st to 4th instar), prepupal, pupal & adult stages. The developmental stages of the pulse beetle were examined over two consecutive generations and across two seasons in five selected pulses: chickpea, cowpea, lentil, pea and rajma. Among all the pulses, the size (length and breadth) of the egg was biggest in cowpea (0.60 and 0.35 mm) followed by rajma (0.58 and 0.33 mm, respectively) and smallest in lentil (0.48 and 0.28 mm, respectively). The size of adult male was biggest in cowpea (4.81 and 2.71 mm, respectively) and smallest in lentil (4.33 and 2.11 mm, respectively). Adult females were always bigger than males. Developmental stages of C. chinensis were biggest on cowpea and smallest in lentil.
