Abstract

This systematic review provides a comprehensive synthesis on global research on the nutritional, mineral and anti-nutrient composition of edible insects, with specific emphasis on studies from India and Assam. Research have highlighted the significant protein, fat, carbohydrate and essential amino acid content of various insect species making them an attractive food option. Despite the promising potential of edible insects, concerns over anti-nutrients and heavy metals are discussed, stressing the need for further research to address these issues. Through a detailed examination of global and regional studies, present study offers valuable insights into the current state of entomophagy research, while identifying critical areas and gaps for future investigation.
