Abstract

Cephonodes hylas (Carl Linnaeus, 1771) the pellucid hawk moth (Sphingidae, Lepidoptera) has been reported first time infesting Neolamarckia cadamba, an evergreen tropical tree Vadlamudi, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. Field observations during Febraury 2025 revealed moderate defoliation of young kadamba plantations, with larvae feeding on foliage. The pest was identified using morphological characteristics of both larvae and adults. This new host association is significant given the ecological and economic role of N. cadamba.
