The present study emphasizes on the diversity of insect pest variety found in Kahikuchi, Assam. Insects were collected both manually as well as by collecting equipments. In all 12 different insect species belonging to 3 orders and 11 families were recorded from the study area. Toxoptera citricida, Dialeurodes citri and Aphis fabae were observed in large numbers and Planococcus citri and Coccus hesperidum were recorded the least. Order Hemiptera (48%) was recorded with highest frequency of insect pest followed by Lepidoptera (28%) and Coleoptera (23%). Statistical analysis following Simpson’s index (D = 0.08, which is close to 0) revealed infinite diversity in the selected study area and Simpson’s Index of diversity (0.92) indicated great sample diversity.
