Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant activity of the roots and leaves of the plant Vernonia cinerea. Roots and leaves (individually) of V. cinerea extracts in organic solvents (methanol, hexane, chloroform and ethyl acetate) and water were assayed for antioxidant activity using FRAP assay. All of these extracts were found to possess significant antioxidant activity at 5μg/ml concentration. The hexane extract of V. cinerea leaves showed highest TACFRAP value and it was lowest with hexane extract of roots.
