Trachycarpus takil Becc.: A Current Status of The Dying Palm in Kumaon Himalayas
Abstract
The present article reviews the current status of palm Trachycarpus takil Becc. (Arecaceae) commonly known as Kumaon fan palm with reference to its morphology, diversity and distribution taking a note to its rarity so that strategies could be evolved to save this controversial, botanically important and geologically curious dying palm from extinction and attempts be made for its conservation, multiplication and rehabilitation. T. takil has been a subject of much confusion over the years for reasons that it closely resembles Trachycarpus fortunei.
