Blackgram (Vigna mungo L.) is most important pulse crop in Madhya Pradesh. One of the major constraints of its low productivity is non-adoption of improved technologies. Front line demonstrations were conducted at 110 farmers’ fields, to demonstrate production potential and economic benefits of improved technologies comprising mungbean yellow vein mosaic virus resistant varieties (Pant U19, LBG 20, IPU 94-1), line sowing (30 x 10 cm), integrated nutrient management (20:60:20, NPK kg/ha+Rhizobium + PSB @ 20 g/kg seed) and weed removal (at 25 days after sowing) at Tikamgarh district of Bundelkhand agro-climatic zone during kharif seasons of 2002-03 to 2008-09 in rainfed condition. The improved technologies recorded a mean yield of 8.93 q/ha which was 117 per cent higher than that obtained with farmer's practice yield of 4.11 q/ha. The improved technologies resulted higher mean net income of Rs. 9856/ ha with a benefit cost ratio of 2.13 as compared to local practice (Rs.3357/ha, 1.64).
