Abstract

Variability, heritability and genetic advance study was carried out on 40 genotypes of fieldpea at C. S. Azad University of Agriculture & Technology Kanpur. Based on genetic variability study it was found that the characters viz., plant height, number of secondary branches per plant, No. of seed/pod, 100 seed weight and Seed yield per plant, may be improved through simple plant selection method. Number of pods per plant and number of seeds per pod were found the most portable character through which yield improvement could be effected. KPMR – 327 (cluster II) and KPMR – 308 (cluster III) may be crossed with members of cluster I to get good heterotic response.
