Abstract

Ten Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] genotypes were evaluated for physico-chemical characteristics. Physical pod characters viz. 100 pod weight, 100 pod volume, apparent density, bulk density and projected area (1-seeded, 2-seeded and 3-seeded) were observed in range of 26.10–73.00 gm, 90–250 ml, 0.245–0.539g/cm3, 0.047–0.195 g/cm3 and 1–6 cm2 respectively for soybean genotypes in June, September and November. Physical seed characters viz., 100 seed weight, 100 seed volume, seed density and seed texture were observed in range 7.40–27.83 gm, 7.00–28.00 ml, 0.71–1.16 g/cm3 and 1.69–8.26 kg/grain respectively in June, September and November. Proximate composition viz. Crude protein, crude fibre, ash content, crude fat, moisture content and total carbohydrate were observed in the range of 6.77–16.02, 2.02–4.42, 1.42–5.09, 2.60–9.82, 42.37–69.50 and 10.9127.82% respectively in June, September and November. Limiting amino acid viz. methionine and tryptophan were observed in range of 0.16–1.55% and 0.52–2.62% for soybean genotypes in June, September and November. Significant differences were observed amongst cultivars as well as among date of sowings for various quality characters.
