Management of lentil rust by chemical fungicides

Abstract

An experiment was conducted during the rabi season of 2012–13 and 2013–14 to study the efficacy of six fungicides namely folicur (0.1%)bavistin, antracol(0.2%), indofil M-45 (0.25%), tilt (0.1%) and contaf (0.15%) for the management of lentil rust. The chemical fungicides were sprayed twice, first just after the appearance of rust symptoms at flowering-podding stage and second spray 15 days later. Among the fungicides, tilt found significantly superior over the rest of the tested fungicides in reducing the rust severity during both the years 2012–13 (86.63%)and2013-14 (87.21%). Folicurranks second with 78.10%& 78.51% reductionin rust severity respectively during the years 2012–13 and 2013–14. The maximum reduction in pod damage was also associated with tilt and followed by folicur in both the years. The pooled analysis of yield attributes and yield also showed maximum pods/plant (97.78), thousand grains weight (20.05), grain yield (1690 kg/ha) and straw yield (2476 kg/ha) with tilt but at par with folicur. The pooled analysis of yield attribute seeds/pod wasn't influenced significantly by different fungicidal treatments. Per rupee return was highest (2.61) in tilt followed by folicur (2.54), bevistin (2.51), antracol (2.50), indofil M-45 (2.49) and contaf (2.46) respectively.
