Abstract

The study on the effect of growth retardant and detopping on growth and yield of summer mungbean (Vigna radiata L. Wilczek) under vertisols of Punjab was conducted during summer season of 2017 at the Agricultural Campus for Research and Advanced Studies Dhablan, Punjab. The result revealed that the grain yield obtained with application of Mepiquat chloride (MC) @ 250 ppm at 35 and 45 DAS (10.22 q ha−1) was significantly higher than control (6.35 q ha−1). Various growth and yield attributes viz., dry weight, number of pods plant−1 (8.12) number of branches plant−1 (9.00) were also significantly higher with MC @ 250 ppm (35 and 45 DAS) as compared to control. All treatments resulted in significant reduction in plant height as compared to control. The study revealed that application of plant growth regulator (MC) is an effective management strategy to increase the yield of green gram crop.
