Abstract

The rapidly expanding population of prison inmates has severely challenged the prison system ability of effectively provide good quality of life to the offenders. Quality of life is person's own subjective view of well being and satisfaction with his life. One of the main objectives of the study was to determine the levels of quality of life among prison inmates. 113 inmates met the criteria of staying more than 6 months in the prison, hence were included for the study. One of the major findings of this study was, only 10% of the inmates felt that they had a good quality of life. It is presumed those inmates who receive better social support will experience more positive social adjustment, higher quality of life and lower recidivism.
