Anatomy Division in Medical Faculty of North Sumatera –– University, Medan, Indonesia.
This research was carried to determine the average magnitude of cranium capacity of Karo, Toba and Mandailing ethnics and then to find out whether there is any significant difference with cranium capacity of European/Japanese. So a cephalometry of 57 students was conducted from medical Faculty in Semester III, academic year 1990/1991, consisting of 17 Karo students, 27 Toba students and 13 Mandailing students.
This research was an analytic-observative study, which could be utilized to support the tourism development, because this research result is an identification tool, like tattoo, skin colour and so on.
The target population was students in Medical Faculty of North Sumatera University, academic year of 1990–1991, comprising of all three ethnics as above. Population was homogenous, seen from the same ethnics, of the same age group and had an almost identical custom.
Cranial capacity of each ethnic was explored through formulation of Lee-Person1. The analyses was used compare with cranium capacity of Europeanl Japanese by statistical method student “t-test”2.3.
Infact the average cranium capacity of Karo, Toba and Mandailing ethnics was 1328.3290 cc; 1344.8925 cc and 1358.0596 cc, respectively. There was a significant difference of 0–10 between those cranium capacity of ethnics mentioned above with cranium capacity of European/Japanese.
