Abstract

Poisoning is, and is likely to remain one of the commonest causes of death. A wide variety of agents of different origin, viz., chemical, plant and animal, are responsible for these poisonings. The nature of poisonings vary from region to region, depending on various factors e.g. availability, popularily and also the knowledge of the local population about the poisonous properties of the agent. The actual pattern of poisonings in India is not really known because of the wide regional variations.
