“Kamalpuja“ – Superstitious death in the Saurashtra region

Abstract

In various regions of India, (Bali) sacrificing the animal, (Niwedh) or sacrificing self by cutting head from the body isoccasionally seen in the remote areas. Likewise in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat such self killing is seen in the village areas due to some superstitious belief, which is known by the name of Kamalpuja in this area.

One such case was referred to the Department of Forensic Medicine, Govt. Medical College, Rajkot and the opinion was given only on the basis of photographs sent.
