The present study comprises of 150 homicidal death cases brought for medicolegal autopsy in S.R.N. Hospital's mortuary at Allahabad during the period from January to December 2001. It was observed that maximum number of victims were in age group of 21–30 years followed by 31–40 years. Males predominated over females in a ratio of approx 4.5:1 and maximum victims belonged to rural areas. Firearms were responsible for most of homicides followed by blunt injuries and injuries due to sharp cutting instruments. In male homicides major cause of fatality was firearms and in females strangulation and smothering (asphyxia) p<.001. Most common motive behind homicide was dispute for money. Commonest mode of death was haemorrhage and shock. Majority of crimes occurred during rainy season (45.33%) and the time of incidence was more between 6 PM to 12 AM mid night.
