Age determination from the degree of fusion of manubrio-mesosternal joint

The degree of fusion of manubrio-mesosternal joint of 160 (110 males and 50 females) indigenous Manipuri subjectcs who are above 20 years of age brought for postmortem examination was studied in the department of Forensic Medicine, RIMS, lmphal. The two variables i.e. age and degree of fusion of the joint have positive interdependency to each other. Thus, from the relationship of two variables Regression formulae are established as (i) Y=29+10X for male and (ii) Y=30+12X for female. Using this Regression formulae age can be determined from the degree of fusion of the joint with the standard error of ±8.0 in male and ±7.1 in female.
