Abstract

Self-injuries behavior (SIB) is a sudden but poorly understood phenomenon. It is defined as the commission of deliberate harm to one's own body. It is repetitive and chronic. Biological (Opiate, Dopamine and Serotonin), Psychodynamical and Behavioral theories have been proposed to explain SIB. Common disorders in which SIB is seen are mental retardation, genetic and metabolic disorders, Pervasive development disorders, depression, battered child syndrome, conduct disorders, self explorative behavior, factitious eating and personality disorders, post traumatic stress disorder and substance abuse. Pharmacological, Bous behavior when caring for healthy children and for those with different medical or psychiatric illnesses2.
