Abstract

Blood transfusion is an important life saving procedure involving two human beings, the donor (who donates blood) and the recipient (who receives blood). As this procedure can cause serious immediate and delayed complications, transfusion must be safe as far as possible both for donor and recipient. This article reviews the blood transfusion practice in Mauritius, with the objective to implement a well defined policy and an appropriate legal framework to ensure maximum safety in blood transfusion.
