Delayed death in ligature compression around neck

Abstract

The death is almost instantaneous and certain in cases of ligature compression around neck like hanging and strangulation. However, few cases have been reported in the literature in which the death has occurred after a certain period of time. In the present paper also, four cases of compression around neck by ligature are discussed in which the death has occurred after a certain period of time. The cases are as follows:

1] A 22 years male was survived for almost seven days after hanging.

2] A 30 years male was found hanging by nylon rope was survived for a period of seven days.

3] A shawl was compressed around the neck of 45 years male due to accidental entangled of shawl in the machine ribbon while working in factory, survived for six days.

4] A 19 years male was survived for about six days after accidental hanging while working in the wool company.
