Abstract

This is a retrospective study of 762 natural death cases (ND) out of 2895 death cases in UMMC from January 2000 to December 2004. The aim of this study is to identify the causes of natural death in relation to age, sex, and race incidences. The post mortem diagnosis was established from the history, circumstantial evidences, complete external and internal examination of body, and histopathology. Out of 762 cases of natural death, 545 cases are sudden natural deaths which involve 475 males and 70 females. Among the cases of natural death, 41–50 years old age group had the highest incidence (26.1%) with median age of 41.5 years. Males predominate the females with a M: F = 4.29:1. The highest organ system involved was cardiovascular system with 50.3%, following by respiratory system with 14.7%.
