Abstract

Of late, drug abuse is spreading like a wild fire to almost every part of the globe. ‘Drugs’ entice, captivate and ultimately cripple abusers from all walks and strata of life. No population or group is spared off the scourge of drug abuse and no one is immune by virtue of age, sex, class, and educational or economic status. World over millions of individuals particularly young adults and students are ‘hooked’ on dependence producing drugs. Thus, ‘drug culture’ is fast making inroads in the lives of young people from all walks of life.1 Indeed, this social scourge not only ruins the addict physically and mentally but also his family physiologically, socially and economically to the extent of causing disruption of peace, harmony and happiness apart from creating apprehension in the minds of peace loving citizens too.
