Abstract

The present study was carried out in the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology of M.G.I.M.S., Sewagram, Wardha, Maharastra from July 2002 to March 2004.

The study comprising of 106 medico-legal cases i.e. 212 ocular examinations was carried out to determine the time since death. The pilot study consisted of 62 cases where exact time since death was known and the Prof. series (test series) consisted of 44 cases.

In the pilot study the 42 were male and 20 were females and in Prof series the 27 cases were males and the 17 were females. Out of 106 cases 69 cases were males and 37 were females. The male: female ratio was 1.8: 1.

It is seen in both the study groups that the vitreous humor potassium concentration increase is directly proportional to the increase in postmortem interval (linear arithmetic relationship).
