Abstract

A postmortem study was conducted to find the incidence, risk factors, myocardial ischemic changes and the frequency of involvement of individual coronary artery. The study involved naked eye and microscopic examination of the myocardium. The study included 100 consecutive medico legal cases from the autopsies conducted in the department of Forensic Medicine, Lady Hardinge Medical college, New Delhi. The risk factors included age, sex, hypertension, smoking, diabetes, and alcoholism. The changes in the ischemic myocardium included waviness, eosinophilia, inflammatory cell infiltration, capillary congestion, interstitial oedema and fibrosis. In majority of cases with positive findings the survival period was more than 48 hours.
