Abstract

Forensic DNA profiling is one of the most important advances in the field of Forensic Sciences. Dr. Alec Jeffrey was the pioneer in applying this technique in helping solve two murders of young victims in Leicestershire. All living things are made up of different cells and DNA is extracted from these nucleated cells except the red blood cells which are non-nucleated. It is this genetic material which generates the genetic pattern of an individual. The application of DNA and the methods of collection, preservation and dispatch of biological material is discussed.
